Three migrants rescued in the Mediterranean by the ship ‘Geo Barents’, managed by the NGO Doctors Without Borders, have jumped overboard on Monday in the face of the refusal of the Italian authorities to allow the disembarkation of all the people on board.
«This atrocious situation must end now!» the organization has cried out on its social networks, where it has deplored the action taken by these three people. Posters have also been displayed on which the migrants cry out for «help» to the Italian government.
The NGO had already denounced that the situation on board was «untenable», after the Italian authorities did not authorize the disembarkation of 215 of the 572 people rescued by the ‘Geo Barents’. In addition to this vessel, there are three others awaiting some kind of gesture to complete the evacuation.
«We are seeing panic attacks among the survivors,» said the head of Operations on the ‘Geo Barents’, Ricardo Gatti. «The situation in terms of vulnerability, at least psychologically, is obviously still in place,» he warned in a statement.
