The Russian Parliament on Thursday passed the law guaranteeing war veteran status to volunteers participating in the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
«The draft law states that the status will be granted to volunteers who join the formations created by the Russian authorities and contribute to the fulfillment of the Armed Forces’ functions during the special military operation on the Ukrainian territories,» the text reads, Interfax news agency reported.
Thus, the law also proposes to establish the «status of combat invalid for those persons who have suffered some disability as a result of wounds or bruises sustained during the performance of their duties within the framework of the operation».
The measure was approved by deputies and senators, led by the chairman of the State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, and the chairwoman of the Federation Council, Valentina Matviyenko.
Volodin said that this is a «fair decision for the volunteers and their family members who, like military personnel, will enjoy benefits and social support measures in accordance with the provisions of the legislation».
