Russia’s ambassador to the United States, Anatoli Antonov, on Friday lamented the «serious crisis» in bilateral relations between the two countries and warned that there seems to be «no solution in sight.»
In an interview with the newspaper ‘Izvestia’, he indicated that «it would be naive to assume, judging from information in the media, that any transformation to return the relations between the parties to their course is viable».
«Relations are facing a strong crisis and there is no light at the end of the tunnel for now,» he said before asserting that Washington is still trying to put pressure on the country through economic sanctions and political issues.
Thus, he asserted that politicians «believe that decisions have to focus on weakening Russia and making it incapable of defending its rights on the international stage.»
«That is what Washington is trying and its efforts are focused on crushing us through multilateral mechanisms and institutions,» he has stated. «We diplomats working in the United States want a different relationship between the parties. One that can be built on respect and national rights with equal rights,» he pointed out.
