The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, has tested positive for coronavirus for the third time on Tuesday, as confirmed by the Pakistani Minister of Information, Marriyum Aurangzeb, who has asked to «pray» for the health of the president.
«Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has tested positive for coronavirus. He had been unwell for two days,» Aurangzeb said in a message on her Twitter account.
Thus, he has indicated that «the coronavirus test has been performed today on the recommendation of his doctor.» «The people and workers (of Sharif’s party) are asked to pray for the prime minister’s speedy recovery,» he said.
Sharif, who recovered from cancer, already tested positive for coronavirus in June 2020 and January 2022, when he was leader of the opposition Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). Days ago he returned to the country from the UK after a visit to talk to his brother and party chief, Nawaz Sharif.
Sources close to the Sharif family quoted by the Pakistani television channel Geo TV have detailed that the prime minister had a fever on Saturday, before taking the flight to Pakistan, so his family recommended him not to travel. He finally boarded the plane on Sunday for Islamabad.
