The Syrian Foreign Ministry has denounced Turkish military forces present in northern Syria for depriving more than one million inhabitants in the Syrian province of Hasaka of drinking water.
«Cutting off water to the citizens of Hasaka and other Syrian towns is an inhumane and vile act committed by the Turkish occupier and its lackeys of terrorist organizations and also by the separatist militia SDF and its American allies,» the Syrian government has denounced in a statement carried by the official news agency, SANA. The SDF is the Syrian Democratic Forces, a Kurdish-Arab militia with a presence in the northeast of the country.
Damascus denounces that the repeated water cuts constitute a collective punishment against the civilian population, especially for vulnerable groups such as children, women and the elderly, in addition to being a war crime and a crime against humanity.
The statement also appealed to the international community and the UN because «condemnations are no longer enough» and calls for immediate measures to stop these practices.
