A woman injured during a shooting at a neighborhood meeting in Rome has died after spending several days in hospital in serious condition, bringing the total number of fatalities from the incident to four.

Fabiana de Angelis, 57, had been in the Sant’Andrea hospital in Rome since Sunday after being shot in the skull. The woman had undergone emergency surgery and remained in intensive care but her condition was irreversible, according to the Italian daily ‘La Repubblica’.

Three other people remain injured in the shooting. The alleged perpetrator, Claudio Campiti, 57, was arrested after bursting into a bar in the Roman neighborhood of Fidenas during a neighborhood meeting and killing three women before being intercepted.

Witnesses to the incident have stated that it was not the first time they had problems with the accused: «We had already reported the killer for threats, but we were ignored,» a woman told ‘Corriere della Sera’. The perpetrator of the Fidenas shooting also maintained a blog on the Internet where he had already threatened the administrators of the residents’ association.

Investigations have revealed that the accused was carrying the passport and 6,000 euros in cash, which has increased suspicions about his intention to flee after carrying out the shooting indiscriminately. Campiti, for now the only suspect, faces a crime of multiple aggravated voluntary manslaughter with premeditation and will appear this Wednesday for the first time before the judge.

Among the fatalities is a «friend» of the Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, who has expressed her condolences for the victims and their families. For his part, the mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, has condemned the act of violence that «shocked» the community: «We must do everything possible so that tragedies like this do not happen again,» he shared via his Twitter account.
