Former U.S. coronavirus chief Anthony Fauci has come out against Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis’ request for a state Supreme Court investigation into alleged irregularities in the COVID-19 vaccine.
«I have no idea what he’s asking for. We have a vaccine that, without question, is highly effective and safe, and has saved literally millions of lives,» Fauci said during an interview with CNN.
According to the former White House health advisor, based on a recent study, the Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines saved the lives of more than 3.2 million Americans and prevented more than 18.5 million hospitalizations.
«What’s the problem with vaccines? I mean, vaccines save lives. So, frankly, I’m not sure what they’re trying to do with this,» Fauci chided, alluding to the aforementioned research request.
Finally, Fauci lamented the politicization of the coronavirus, a pandemic that, he says, is a «common enemy» against which all Americans should unite, regardless of their political party.
DeSantis again on Wednesday questioned the efficacy of the vaccine against the coronavirus and called on the state Supreme Court to investigate alleged irregularities committed in favor of pharmaceutical companies, known, he said, for «deceiving the population.
The Florida governor assured that after the pandemic health crisis, «an exhaustive investigation» of vaccines is necessary, since the pharmaceutical companies have a «long history» of deceit in order to profit economically.
It is not the first time that DeSantis questions the reliability of the vaccine and defends denialist postulates, showing himself since the beginning of Joe Biden’s Administration as one of those local politicians who have fought against the federal laws that seek to prevent and stop the advance of the pandemic.
Florida is one of the states that contested the mandatory use of masks in schools and public places, as well as against the rest of the laws related to the coronavirus pandemic that came from Washington.
