Colombia’s president, Gustavo Petro, has called on Friday for the demobilization of armed groups in the country claiming that «it is better to have a woman in your arms than a cold rifle in your bed».
During an intervention after meeting with peasant and coca growers’ organizations to rethink the country’s drug policy, the Colombian president sent a message to the armed groups assuring that it is time to put an end to the armed conflict, as reported by Blu Radio.
«Because of the coldness of the metal, of the rifle, they embraced it as if it were a woman. The rifle is not good for that, I can assure you. It is better to have the woman embraced than the cold rifle in the bed,» said Petro, who as a young man was a militant in the M-19 guerrilla group.
Meanwhile, the Colombian president said that the government will provide funding to 100,000 young people in vulnerable areas of the country to be «spokespersons for peace», an item that will come out of the proceeds of the new tax reform, according to the aforementioned radio station.
Likewise, he announced in Catacumbo, one of the regions with the highest coca production in Colombia, a strategy that will allow the substitution of illicit crops and protect them from «enduring hunger».
