The death toll from a freezing storm sweeping through parts of the Midwest and eastern United States has risen to 22, after seven U.S. states confirmed deaths in the last few hours.
According to information gathered by the US television network CNN, eight people have died in Ohio, three in Kansas, New York and Kentucky, two in Colorado and one each in Missouri, Tennessee and Wisconsin.
Also, more than 315,000 homes and businesses have been left without electricity because of the storms on Christmas Eve, when more than 3,300 flights have also been canceled, while more than 800 are already canceled this Sunday.
According to U.S. media, weather forecasts indicate that the storm will be accompanied in the coming hours by heavy snowfall, blizzards and even flooding in some parts of the northeastern coast. For the time being, there is no respite in sight until after Christmas Day.
