The President of Peru, Dina Boluarte, assured Thursday that there will be no «impunity» for the more than 20 deaths that have occurred during the demonstrations that have broken out in the country following the impeachment and arrest of former President Pedro Castillo.
Boluarte emphasized during a press conference with the Association of Foreign Press in Peru (APEP) that the Executive will give «all the facilities» to both the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Judiciary to handle each individual case «as it corresponds».
«We did not generate violence. When we took office we said that we would be a government of dialogue because we come from behind with a tremendous polarization», said the current president, adding that the deaths «hurt her soul», as reported by the Andina news agency.
Likewise, Boluarte informed that, at the request of her Executive, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) will return in January. A delegation of the organization already held last week a series of meetings with local authorities, members of social organizations and relatives of the deceased.
