Israel’s former Prime Minister Yair Lapid has left his successor, Benjamin Netanyahu, a note in which he promises to continue working to return to power in 2024, on a day marked by the inauguration of the new government and not without controversy.
The leader of Yesh Atid himself has published in his social networks an image with the note, in which it can be read, in Hebrew: «Lapid-2024». Last year, Netanyahu also left a similar message to his successor, Naftali Bennet, as he left office: «I will be back».
Netanyahu was sworn in again Thursday as head of government, after a tense parliamentary session in which Lapid avoided shaking hands with the conservative leader, according to ‘Times of Israel’. Both politicians, however, did hold a 45-minute meeting.
Netanyahu explained that it was a «good» and «complete» meeting and hopes that it will be repeated every month, despite the fact that during his time as leader of the opposition the current prime minister did not see Lapid for more than a year.
