Representatives of the Government of China and the World Health Organization (WHO) held a telematic meeting on Friday to discuss the current epidemiological situation in the Asian giant, which has seen an increase in cases of COVID-19 following the lifting of most of the restrictions.
The Chinese Ministry of Health has reported this meeting, in which both parties discussed technical issues, such as treatments and vaccines, and also the need to work to put an end to the pandemic as soon as possible, according to a brief statement from the Executive.
Chinese President Xi Jinping referred for the first time on Friday to the lifting of restrictions, attributing the change of strategy in the fight against the pandemic to the need to «optimize» measures to protect the health of the population and at the same time minimize the economic collateral effects, reports Bloomberg.
The President no longer uses the term «zero COVID» to refer to this strategy, despite the fact that for almost three years Beijing has defended this approach tooth and nail to justify the imposition of strict control measures, with indiscriminate confinements and tests.
