A group of environmental activists have sprayed paint on the main facade of the Senate in Italy on Monday, as a sign of protest against the alleged lack of commitment of the authorities to take measures to combat the climate emergency.
The action took place before 8.00 a.m. and resulted in the arrest of five people, according to sources quoted by Rai channel.
Environment Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin warned that this type of «vandalism» is «unacceptable» and therefore «will not go unpunished». He also defended the commitment of Giorgia Meloni’s Executive to environmentalism.
For the president of the Senate, Ignazio La Russa, this is an «unjustified» action on the part of the activists, a protest «that offends all the institutions». La Russa has summoned for Tuesday the leadership of the institution to examine what happened.
