Taiwan’s Ministry of Finance announced Wednesday that it has extended restrictions on exports to Russia and Belarus in connection with sanctions imposed against Russian authorities over the war in Ukraine.
The items that have been added to the control list–a total of 52–are related to nuclear energy, chemicals or tools and machinery.
The ministerial portfolio has explained through a statement that the objective of these export controls is based on compliance «with international cooperation» and to «prevent Taiwan’s high-tech products from being used for military purposes».
With this, Economy has urged exporters to comply with export regulations «and to act with due diligence before conducting transactions to Russia and Belarus».
Taiwanese authorities condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine, adding to the international community’s sanctions following the outbreak of the war, which began on February 24.
China considers the island to be part of its territory, although Taiwan has been governed by independent authorities since 1949.
