Brazil’s former president Jair Bolsonaro announced Monday that he has been discharged from AdventHealth Celebration hospital, located outside the U.S. city of Orlando, after being admitted for severe abdominal pain in an area where he was stabbed in 2018.
«Yesterday new pain and hospital discharge in Orlando, U.S. (We are) grateful for the prayers and messages of speedy recovery,» Bolsonaro himself has asserted in a message on his Twitter account, attaching a photo in which he is seen reclining on a hospital bed.
«After being stabbed in (the municipality of) Juiz de Fora, I underwent five surgeries. Since the last one, I have had twice more ailments that have led me to other medical procedures,» the former president himself has detailed.
According to the Brazilian newspaper ‘O Globo’, the former president had been admitted on Monday morning to the AdventHealth Celebration hospital, located on the outskirts of the city of Orlando.
Bolsonaro would have suffered an intestinal obstruction, according to the diagnosis of the medical team attending him.
The doctor Antonio Macedo, responsible for six surgeries of the ex-president, has already spoken by telephone with the doctors attending Bolsonaro, reports ‘O Globo’.
Bolsonaro was the victim of a stabbing in the abdomen during the 2018 election campaign. Following this attack he has had to undergo up to four surgeries.
However, the former president has suffered several episodes of abdominal pain, for which he has had to be hospitalized on successive occasions, most recently in the middle of last November, when he was admitted to the Armed Forces Hospital in Brasilia.
This latest hospitalization of Bolsonaro comes just one day after hundreds of supporters stormed the seat of state powers in Brasilia, in an episode similar to the one experienced on January 6, 2021 at the U.S. Capitol.
