Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is retiring from the French national soccer team, the hitherto ‘Bleus’ captain confirmed Monday in an interview with French sports daily L’Équipe.
«There comes a time when you have to know that you have to give up leadership,» said the 36-year-old, who won the 2018 World Cup with France and last year fell just short of retaining the title in Qatar.
«I think the team behind me is ready to continue, there is also a goalkeeper who is ready,» said Lloris, who is still under contract with English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur until 2024.
