The Peruvian Congress has granted this Tuesday the vote of confidence to the Council of Ministers led by the newly appointed Prime Minister, Alberto Otárola, after it was presented during a plenary session marked by the deaths during the protests that are taking place in the country against the Government of Dina Boluarte.
With 73 votes in favor, 42 against and six abstentions, the Andean legislative chamber has shown its confidence to the new cabinet, which has exposed and discussed the general policy to be carried out by the Government as well as the main measures required for its management, reported ‘Diario Correo’.
During the plenary session, the death of 18 people during the protests in the last 24 hours in the department of Puno has been taken into account, all this in the most violent day since the demonstrations began with the dismissal of former president Pedro Castillo on December 7.
Before the beginning of the premier’s speech, a large number of congressmen, especially from left-wing benches, approached with signs to shout «murderer» at Otárola for the events that took place in Puno, reason for which the session was momentarily suspended.
Hours before, the legislators had considered that the plenary session should be suspended, but their proposal obtained the support of the majority, since it only had 29 votes in favor.
«In one day, this Congress ruined, justified the deaths of compatriots, sponsored a man accused of rape and, finally, granted confidence to a cabinet stained with blood. This disgrace will remain for history!», said on Twitter the congresswoman of Cambio Democrático Sigrid Bazán.
The leader of the Peru Libre party, Vladimir Cerrón, has also criticized the vote: «On the 47 dead, confidence was given to the cabinet of death with 73 votes in favor. As the song says: May those few not be easily forgotten!».
