The Spanish tennis player and reigning champion of the Australian Open, Rafael Nadal, acknowledged Tuesday not to be worried about his start without victories in 2023, while confirming his good form to try to win his third crown at Melbourne Park.
«Well, it’s true that the last two months I have not been able to play much tennis and at the beginning of the season I lost two matches in Sydney, but honestly, I’m not unhappy with the preparation,» said the tennis player in statements in Melbourne collected by the Australian press.
After his participation in the United Cup, in which he lost to Britain’s Cameron Norrie and Australia’s Alex de Minaur, Nadal acknowledged needing some victory. «I need to win matches. But the preparation is going pretty well,» he said.
«I practice a lot and I think I’m in good shape. Then you have to prove it in matches, in official tournaments. But I’m confident that if I’m able to have this last week of positive training, why not?» he expressed.
Finally, the tennis player was optimistic about this year’s edition and recalled his win against all odds last season against Daniil Medvedev. «I’m very happy to be back in Melbourne. Last year was unforgettable,» he concluded.
