The president of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, shared a message through a video at the Golden Globes 2023 gala. A message that comes almost a year after Russian forces invaded the country in February 2022 in which he was confident of victory in the face of the invasion ordered by Vladimir Putin and in which he assured that there will not be a Third World War.

Zelenski began by explaining the impact the Golden Globes had when they were created, honoring the achievements of cinema in 1943, a time he recalled coincided with World War II, and assured that future generations should only learn about the barbarity of war through films.

«World War I took millions of lives, World War II took tens of millions…there will be no World War III. This is not a trilogy,» said the Ukrainian leader who expressed confidence in the future victory of the Ukrainian people in what he defined as «a common struggle for freedom, democracy, for the right to live, to love… no matter who they are and no matter where they are from.»

«Ukraine will stop Russian aggression. On our land, we will do it together. And we hope that all of you will be with us on the day of our victory, celebrating,» he concluded in a recorded message delivered at the gala by actor Sean Penn, who has visited Ukraine several times since the Russian invasion began.

«If the freedom to dream were a spear, I proudly present a human being who tonight represents the sharpest point of that spear,» proclaimed an emotional Penn who just a few weeks ago presented Zelenski with his Oscar as a symbol of faith in Ukraine’s victory.
