Brazil’s Public Prosecutor’s Office has asked the Federal Supreme Court (TSF) to investigate three pro-Bolsonar deputies for «inciting anti-democratic acts» following the assault on the headquarters of the three branches of government in Brasilia last Sunday.
In a statement, the Public Prosecutor’s Office has asked the TSF to investigate the parliamentarians André Fernandes, Silvia Waiapi, both from the Liberal Party (PL) – the same formation of the former president Jair Bolsonaro -, and also the parliamentarian Clarissa Tércio, from the conservative Progressive Party.
According to the petition, the three deputies are suspected of «inciting acts of violence and vandalism» through «publications on social networks before and during the invasions,» which could constitute the crime of «public incitement to crime.»
Two days before the anti-democratic acts, Congressman André Fernandes posted a video on Twitter announcing the «first act against Lula’s government,» which would occur over the weekend. He also posted a vandalized photo of the door of the office of Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, as reported by ‘Metropoles’.
Clarissa Tércio, on the day of the assault, posted a video on Instagram in which she instigated bolsonaristas. «We just took power. We are inside the Congress. All the people are up here. This will go down in history, the history of my grandchildren, my great-grandchildren,» she said.
For her part, Silvia Waiapi, close to former President Jair Bolsonaro, encouraged the acts through publications on Instagram also on the day of the anti-democratic acts: «People take the Esplanade of the Ministries this Sunday! Seizure of power by the Brazilian people dissatisfied with the red government.»
The request of the Prosecutor’s Office comes after parliamentary benches of the Workers’ Party (PT) and the Socialism and Liberty Party (PSOL) in the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies have requested the Supreme Court to investigate the cases of the three congressmen.
Thousands of supporters of former president Jair Bolsonaro stormed the headquarters of the three branches of power in Brasilia on Sunday, after two months camped in front of the Army headquarters demanding a coup d’état.
As a consequence of the «coupist» and «terrorist» acts, as defined by the authorities, the Supreme Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes dismissed the governor of Brasilia, Ibaneis Rocha, and the Security Secretary, Anderson Torres, for «omission» of functions and «connivance» with the mob.
