U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) investigators on Sunday found more than half a dozen new documents, some of them classified, during a search of U.S. President Joe Biden’s Delaware residence on Friday.
After the inspection of the Democratic leader’s home in Wilmington, which lasted almost 13 hours, the authorities found new documents, according to the president’s personal lawyer Bob Bauer.
The search also uncovered writings from Biden’s time as president in the Senate and also during his vice presidency.
These documents would be the latest found after the searches by federal authorities, at the request of President Biden’s lawyers, and represent a further step in the investigations against the U.S. leader, who said that the previous findings, at his home and his former office, would eventually be considered irrelevant.
For his part, Biden’s special counsel, Richard Sauber, has stated that the president «is committed to handling this responsibly because he takes it seriously» and that he and his team are «working quickly to ensure that the DOJ and the special counsel have what they need to conduct a thorough review,» as reported by CNN.
