A judge of guarantees in Paloquemao, in the Colombian capital of Bogota, has sent Margareth Chacon to prison, considered the mastermind of the murder of Paraguayan prosecutor Marcelo Pecci on Colombian territory in May last year.
Chacon was arrested last week by the authorities of El Salvador, who deported her to Colombia on Monday. The Colombian Prosecutor’s Office informed on Monday of her arrest upon her arrival at the capital’s El Dorado airport.
Colombian judicial authorities have accused Chacon of «planning, financing and logistics of the murder of prosecutor Marcelo Pecci», who died in Cartagena while celebrating his honeymoon with his wife, according to RCN Radio.
With this arrest, Colombia has now sent to prison seven defendants accused of involvement in Pecci’s murder, among them the Perez Hoyos brothers — one of whom is considered to be Chacon’s partner — who admitted in mid-January to having participated in the prosecutor’s death.
Chacon was arrested last week by El Salvador authorities along with a Salvadoran citizen accused of allegedly helping the Colombian woman hide from authorities after fleeing her country.
El Salvador’s Minister of Justice and Security, Gustavo Villatoro, said at the time that the Central American nation would not serve as a «refuge» for «international criminals,» and indicated its maximum willingness to collaborate with Bogota.
