Pakistan woke up this Monday to a power outage that has affected the entire country, which is gradually recovering.
The country’s Ministry of Energy has reported that around 07.34 local time (03.34 Spanish peninsular time) there has been a reduction in the frequency of the national network, which has caused a widespread failure.
The ministerial portfolio has indicated at first that the maintenance of the system was progressing rapidly. Minutes later, it has indicated through its Twitter profile that the supply was being recovered in «a limited number of networks» such as the Pesawhar Electricity Supply Company (PESCO) and the Islamabad Electricity Supply Company (IESCO).
Power Minister Jurrum Dastagir has claimed that power generation units are temporarily shut down in winter at night as a cost-saving measure.
«There was a fluctuation in voltage and power generating units were shut down one by one due to cascading impact. This is not a major crisis,» he explained, as reported by the ‘Dawn’ newspaper, which assured that power will be fully restored across the country in the next twelve hours.
