The President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, has accused the United Nations, the Organization of American States (OAS) and the European Union for their «silence» in the face of the situation in Peru, the scene of anti-government demonstrations for weeks and in the context of which nearly 60 people have already died.

«The UN, the OAS, where were they? Where are they now with what is happening in Peru? Where are the legislators of the European Union?», questioned the Mexican president, attacking international organizations for the social conflict in the Andean nation.

In this sense, López Obrador has demanded that these organizations cease their «simulation» and has urged them to stop acting «falsely». «We no longer want a farce», said the Mexican president during his usual daily press conference.

«They don’t see, they don’t hear, they don’t speak, they are like vases, they are ornaments. These are institutions that require a sharp renovation in terms of their functions», said López Obrador with respect to the aforementioned international organizations.

In this way, President López Obrador denounced the silence of these organizations with respect to Peru, while they do get involved in internal Mexican affairs, such as the disappearances of people or the violent deaths of journalists.

Thousands of followers of the former Peruvian president Pedro Castillo have taken to the streets of the main cities of the Andean country to demand the departure of the current president, Dina Boluarte, and the calling of new elections. So far, some 60 deaths have been confirmed in the protests.
