Antioquia asks armed groups for more commitment to ceasefire and greater clarity from central government

The governor of Antioquia, Aníbal Gaviria, on Thursday asked the armed groups for greater commitment to the bilateral ceasefire agreed with the Colombian government, and also asked for greater clarity during the process.

«We call on the National Government and the Peace Commissioner on the urgency of clarifying the protocols for the ceasefire. Likewise, we demand greater commitment from the armed groups that have expressed their willingness to contribute to total peace,» Gaviria has claimed in his Twitter account.

Gaviria, of the Liberal Party (PL), has used his social networks to denounce the presence of illegal armed groups in populated centers in the north and northeast of the department, as well as in educational centers, in «flagrant violation» of international humanitarian law.

We will send evidence of the presence of illegal armed groups, the indoctrination, use and recruitment of minors in rural educational institutions to the Ministries of Defense, Interior, Education, the Peace Commissioner and the United Nations,» said Gaviria.

The governor of Meta, Juan Guillermo Zuluaga, who a few weeks ago denounced the presence of dissidents of the now defunct FARC guerrilla in the region, forcing the Vista Hermosa peasant communities to attend regular meetings, has also made a statement along these lines.

On this occasion, Zuluaga has responded to Gaviria’s denunciation in his Twitter profile with a certain irony, considering that «if it rains over there, it doesn’t rain over here».

The Government is in the middle of negotiations with the National Liberation Army (ELN) guerrilla, waiting to reach a bilateral ceasefire, which it has agreed with four other armed organizations, the two main FARC dissidents, and two paramilitary organizations, among them the Clan del Golfo, within the framework of the Colombian State’s total peace policy.
