Princess Amalia, heiress to the throne of the Netherlands, has broken her silence about the threats she received last year and admitted that she is still having a «very bad time», at the end of an official visit with her parents to Caribbean territories.
«I miss normal life, student life. Walking the streets, going to a store,» said 19-year-old Amalia, who hopes that the restrictions imposed in recent months will not be permanent and that she will eventually be able to regain her lost freedoms.
The Royal House reported in October that the princess remained in detention amid fears of a possible attack or kidnapping, after her name appeared in intercepted conversations with people linked to organized crime. The young woman was forced to leave Amsterdam, where she was studying.
The king, William Alexander, has also commented on his daughter’s situation regarding the trip, assuring that he is no «expert» on security issues and that he leaves such matters to those who really know. He did want to emphasize his «pride» for his daughter, «grateful» also for having participated in the visit.
