The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, arrived this Saturday at the Campeche airport where he was received by his Mexican counterpart, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, as part of a visit where both leaders will renew health cooperation agreements and the sending of more Cuban doctors to the country.
López Obrador will also decorate the Cuban leader with the Order of the Aztec Eagle, the highest distinction the Mexican nation gives to foreigners.
«It is the intention of the government of the United Mexican States to recognize His Excellency Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, president of the Republic of Cuba, for his work in strengthening relations of friendship and cooperation between Mexico and Cuba,» stated the agreement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF).
Later, at around 1:00 p.m. local time, the presidents will head the Mexico-Cuba bilateral meeting, within the framework of the IMSS-Bienestar Health meetings at the Seventh Military Naval Region in Campeche, a port town on the Gulf of Mexico.
Since the inauguration of the Mexican president in December 2018, the two presidents have met on three more occasions: in 2019, with their first visit; in 2021 for the celebration of the Grito de Independencia in Mexico; and in 2022 with López Obrador’s visit to the island, reports Proceso.
