Defense Minister Margarita Robles has warned that Russia has been preparing during these winter months and expectations are that «it will launch a major offensive» against Ukraine.
This is what she said in an interview to RTVE Channel 24 Hours, picked up by Europa Press, in which she admitted that she expects «a year of absolutely cruel and atrocious war».
On the latest Russian attacks on civilian targets, Robles has criticized that «it violates any rule of the law of war and with absolutely tremendous massacres in the populations». In this sense, he valued that «Ukrainian citizens are resisting like true heroes».
During his speech, he reiterated that Spain will not send to Ukraine the planes requested by the president, Volodimir Zelenski, because «it does not have them» and, regarding the shipment of the ‘Leopard’ tanks, he did not want to reveal the date. «Spain has always been very discreet in all this matter because there are many issues surrounding military shipments».
The Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelenski, insisted this Thursday in Brussels (Belgium) to the leaders of the European Union on the supply of fighter planes, a matter he has said he will discuss bilaterally with the member states, to which he has asked to redouble the pressure against Russia with sanctions affecting the Russian «war machine».
However, the Minister wanted to emphasize that, since the beginning of the war, Spain has been involved with Ukraine in «humanitarian aid and aid by sending military material to defend itself».
For this reason, she insisted that «Spain is firmly committed to helping Ukrainian citizens, precisely to defend their lives, that it will always do so with discretion, and that it will always do so in total coordination with its partners and allies».
