The Russian judiciary on Thursday sentenced Mahdi Magomedov, a member of the Chechen guerrillas, to 23 years in prison for attacking a Russian paratrooper unit in 2000 near the village of Ulus Kert, in the vicinity of Grozny.
The Russian Investigative Committee has reported that »the evidence collected by the Investigative Department seems to be sufficient to convict him» for the attack on the Pskov troops, according to information from the TASS news agency.
Thus, they have pointed out that Magomedov – who was part of the guerrilla headed by Shamil Basayev, who even offered a reward for the assassination of Vladimir Putin – has been found guilty of the attack perpetrated in February 2000 and in which 84 members of the Army were killed.
