The Turkish Armed Forces reported Thursday the death of a leader of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which Ankara considers a terrorist organization, in an operation carried out in northern Iraq.
Thus, the Army has identified the alleged leader of the group as Ahmet Gumus, who has been described as one of the ringleaders of the organization, according to information from the TRT Haber television channel.
The authorities consider that Gumus planned and executed »numerous attacks against the Turkish security forces» and have indicated that he would have participated in attacks against police stations in Turkish territory.
The Turkish army has recently intensified its operations against the PKK – which it considers a terrorist group – both in the southeast of the country and in northern Iraq, both Kurdish-majority areas, since the ceasefire between the government and the armed group was broken in July 2015.
