The Polish Senate on Wednesday adopted a resolution recognizing the Russian authorities as a terrorist regime and urging the international community to support the International Criminal Court (ICC) in its investigation into the war in Ukraine.
The resolution, which passed with the support of all senators present at the vote, remarked that the main objective of the Russian invasion of Ukraine is to «wipe a sovereign country off the map and destroy the Ukrainian nation.»
«Russian invaders terrorize the inhabitants of Ukrainian cities by shelling civilian targets (…) Bandits in Russian uniforms torture and murder prisoners of war and civilians in the occupied territories,» reads the resolution, as reported by the PAP agency.
Likewise, the document points out that Russia, which with its war operations has recovered «the cruel practices of the Stalinist and Nazi regimes», must be «defeated and deprived of the possibility of endangering its neighbors».
For all these reasons, the Polish Senate has appealed to all the countries of the international community «in favor of peace, democracy and human rights» to adhere to its resolution and to consider the Russian government as a terrorist regime.
Finally, the upper house urged the international community to support the efforts of the ICC to investigate those responsible for the crimes perpetrated on Ukrainian territory in the framework of the war, which has now entered its ninth month.
