The new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, has defended on Wednesday the reinstatement of Suella Braverman as Home Secretary in her first control session since she received the baton from the now former British Premier Liz Truss, who resigned after the strong criticism of the so-called ‘mini-budget’ announced by the Government.

In response to questions raised by the leader of the opposition, Keir Starmer, Sunak assured that Braverman «made an error of judgment» but expressed his joy «for the fact that he is back in the Cabinet», a decision that has raised controversy.

Although Starmer has accused Sunak of striking a «dirty deal» with her, Sunak has insisted that this is a good decision and emphasized that her goal is to «work together to make the streets safer and control the borders.»

On the other hand, he assured that the government «will protect the most vulnerable», especially in times of crisis and «as it did during the pandemic» of coronavirus. «We will support nurses, hard workers,» he said, referring to the measures already announced by the previous government for the health sector, as reported by the BBC.

In this sense, he admitted that there are still «difficult decisions ahead to restore economic stability» and warned that inflation «is the main enemy», but assured that he will address these issues in a «fair and compassionate» way.

Sunak, who stressed that he has «always acted in favor of the protection of the most vulnerable», said he is willing to work together with the different regions of the country, while he said he is «committed to cooperate fully» in the inquiry into the parties held in Downing Street when Boris Johnson was prime minister.
