Brazil’s incumbent president, Jair Bolsonaro, has closed the campaign in the city of Belo Horizonte in the state of Minas Gerais, in the east of the country — which is usually decisive in the outcome of general elections — where he held one of his now characteristic meetings with motorcyclists.
Bolsonaro has shared on social networks videos of the event, in which a caravan of people can be seen riding these types of vehicles. He also participated in an event in Liberty Square, located in the southern part of the city center, according to ‘O Globo’.
Upon his arrival, around 10.00 a.m. (local time) he met with the recently re-elected governor, Romeu Zema of the New Party of liberal ideology and other like-minded politicians who support Bolsonaro in this Sunday’s elections.
Minas Gerais is the second most populated state in the country, behind Sao Paulo, so Bolsonaro seeks to close the gap with his opponent in the elections, Lula da Silva (PT) to be re-elected as president of Brazil, since it is almost tradition that the ‘favorite’ in this state wins at the national level.
In addition, the president announced on his Twitter account that at 19.00 hours (local time) he would make an important announcement, this has materialized in a list of 22 commitments that he pledges to carry out if he wins this Sunday.
Among other aspects, he has pledged to reduce the age of criminal responsibility for the crimes of rape, murder and robbery, modernize the Security Forces, reduce homicides by 20 percent, implement a «national policy for the strengthening of family ties», deliver two million homes to low-income families and increase the minimum wage to 1400 reais (265 euros)-a measure to which he committed himself in the last face-to-face with Lula on Saturday.
