Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski has warned that he will not participate in the upcoming G20 leaders’ summit if his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, who is among those invited by the host country, Indonesia, attends and has not yet clarified whether he will go.
«If the leader of the Russian Federation participates, Ukraine will not,» Zelenski explained in a meeting with journalists picked up by the UNIAN agency, hours after Indonesian President Joko Widodo reiterated by telephone to the Ukrainian leader that he is invited.
A spokesman for the Indonesian Foreign Ministry, Teuku Faizasyah, confirmed that 17 heads of state and government have already confirmed that they will attend the forum, although he gave the final announcement to Widodo, probably closer to the summit to be held in Bali on 15 and 16 November, according to the Bloomberg news agency.
Putin said in late October that «no decision has been made» about his possible trip, nor did the Kremlin give any clues on Wednesday when taking stock of the contents of a telephone conversation with the Indonesian president. Russia, however, did want to praise Indonesia’s «depoliticized» presidency of the G20.
