The King of Bahrain, Hamad bin Isa al Khalifa, has shown his willingness to mediate between the authorities of Russia and Ukraine to reach a peace agreement in the war in Eastern Europe, now in its ninth month.
Bahrain has therefore offered to «play any role in the field of mediation between the two parties», sources in the Bahraini Embassy in Moscow confirmed to the Russian news agency TASS.
«Bahrain also calls on the major powers to reconsider and renew their commitment to maintaining international peace and security, avoiding escalation and confrontation,» the embassy said.
Manama also called for a «reorientation of global efforts» to counter the «waves of extremist ideology», for which it called for a deepening of international collaboration.
