An earthquake of magnitude 6 on the Richter scale registered off the coast of El Salvador has shaken the country’s capital on Thursday, although the threat of a tsunami has been ruled out for the moment.

Around 22.30 hours (local time), an earthquake occurred off the Costa de la Libertad, 37 kilometers south of the beach closest to the epicenter of the earthquake, which has been recorded at a depth of 41 kilometers, as reported by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of El Salvador.

Users on social networks have reported having felt the tremor in the capital, San Salvador, as well as in other localities in the southwest of the country, reported ‘La Prensa Gráfica’.

Although the threat of a tsunami has been ruled out, authorities have called on citizens to be alert for aftershocks or any emergency that may be generated by the strong earth movement.

So far, no material damage or personal casualties have been reported.
