U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has affirmed his belief that Ukrainian troops could soon retake the city of Kherson, claiming that, above all, Ukrainians have faith that they can achieve this.
Asked about the possibility of the Ukrainian Army «recapturing» the remaining territory of Kherson and Russian troops withdrawing from the area, Austin detailed that «clearly» it is something that could happen.
«On the question of whether or not the Ukrainians can take the remaining territory on the western bank of the Dnieper River in Kherson, I certainly think they clearly have the ability to do so. More importantly, the Ukrainians believe that they have the ability to do so,» he has asserted during a press conference.
In this regard, the U.S. Defense Secretary noted that the United States has observed in recent weeks a «very effective methodical effort» by Ukrainian troops to «regain their sovereign territory».
«I think they will keep pushing until they secure the territory on the west side of the river,» Austin added.
