The South Korean Navy has recovered the suspected wreckage of the North Korean ballistic missile that last week flew over the maritime demarcation that functions ‘de facto’ as the border between the two countries, in one of the biggest weapons challenges perpetrated to date by Kim Jong Un’s regime.

The projectile fell on Wednesday in the East Sea — also known as the Sea of Japan, and the South Korean military recovered on Sunday «what appears to be debris» of this short-range ballistic missile, according to a spokesman for the Armed Forces quoted by Yonhap news agency.

North Korean forces fired that day three missiles of this type from the city of Wonsan, on its east coast, although in the whole week they launched more than 30′ ballistic projectiles, among them one of intercontinental type that, according to the countries of the region, could be used in the future for a nuclear test.

Pyongyang has intensified its weapons program in recent months with missiles that have flown over Japan or, for the first time since the end of the Korean War in 1953, have fallen south of the 38th parallel.
