The North Korean authorities have branded Tuesday as «unfair» the words of the United Nations Secretary General, António Guterres, against the launching of ballistic missiles by Pyongyang, which insists that it is a defensive tactic to deal with the «provocations» of the United States.

The remarks by North Korean Vice Foreign Minister Kim Son Gyong come after Guterres on Friday urged North Korea to «immediately desist from any kind of provocative actions» that could increase tension in the region.

«I think it is unfair and shows prejudiced behavior on the part of the secretary general, who blames us to some extent for the situation on the Korean Peninsula,» Kim has asserted, according to reports from North Korea’s state-run KCNA.

He also denied that the country maintains arms agreements with Russia and clarified that «there are no plans in this regard for the future» after the United States accused Pyongyang of supplying weapons and artillery in the context of the war in Ukraine.

«We see these acts by the U.S. as a hostile attempt to tarnish North Korea’s image internationally and invoke Security Council resolutions against the country,» he asserted.

The North Korean authorities have assured that Pyongyang has proceeded to launch more than 80 missiles between November 2 and 5 in a show of force to «cope with possible enemy attacks» and with its life set on facing the joint military maneuvers conducted by the U.S. and South Korean forces.
