The current Republican governor of the U.S. state of Georgia, Brian Kemp, will return to lead the state government for another six years, after defeating Democrat Stacey Abrams in the mid-term elections.
It is the second time that Kemp defeats Abrams, although the Republican candidate was not the favorite of former US President Donald Trump in the primaries to govern the state, according to US media.
Kemp, 58, refused to revoke the results of the 2020 presidential election, as requested by Trump.
The US president accused the Republican governor after the elections of having allowed the «state to be swindled» by confirming Joe Biden’s triumph by just over 10,000 votes and not to give any support to the claims about the alleged electoral fraud committed against him.
