Republican Markwayne Mullin will become the first Native American senator in nearly a century, since 1925, to represent Oklahoma in the U.S. Senate, according to CNN.
«Tonight’s victory is the honor of a lifetime and a great victory for our country. I want to thank all Oklahomans who supported our campaign and volunteered to elect strong Republicans across the state,» Mullin said.
«Tonight, the American people rejected Joe Biden’s extreme socialist movement and embraced a new conservative agenda to get America back on track,» the incoming senator wrote in a message posted on his Twitter profile.
In that sense, Mullin has assured that he feels «honored to have the opportunity to serve the largest state in the union in the Senate,» he added.
Mullin, a member of the Cherokee Nation, defeated Democratic candidate Kendra Horn in the race for the seat of Republican Jim Inhofe, who will resign his post in January.
