The European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, announced Thursday that the United Kingdom will participate in defense cooperation projects related to military mobility.

«I am happy to be able to announce that the United Kingdom will join the Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO) projects on military mobility,» the head of European diplomacy confirmed at a press conference at the presentation of the plan for military mobility in Europe.

Later, when asked about the possible entry of Turkey, which has also requested to participate in joint military projects with the EU, the High Representative informed that Ankara’s request is «moving forward».

Since its exit from the EU, the High Representative has been working to try to integrate the United Kingdom in the frameworks of collaboration in defense, research and academia. On several occasions Borrell had asked for a «structural, permanent and agreed» cooperation, pointing out that it is «a fundamental piece in international security» but he had regretted the lack of harmony to achieve it.

Precisely the EU has presented this Thursday its plan to adapt roads, railways and other infrastructure to the movement of troops and military means so that the European armed forces can respond better, faster and on a sufficient scale to crises that erupt on the external borders of the EU, such as the situation in Ukraine.
