The pro-Russian governor of the Kherson region, Vladimir Saldo, said Thursday that the withdrawal of Russian troops to the western bank of the Dnieper River is a «just cause» that will allow Moscow to regain Ukrainian territory in the future.
«We know for sure: justice will be restored, because it is worth fighting for. I am sure that what we are doing is a just cause,» he said, adding that despite this it was a «difficult decision,» as Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu himself said when announcing the transfer of troops, as reported by the TASS news agency.
The Russian authorities have announced this Thursday the beginning of a series of military maneuvers of «preparation» on the western bank of the Dnieper River, which runs from Russian territory to Ukraine through Belarus.
Shoigu announced on Tuesday, on a suggestion of the commander of the Armed Forces in Ukraine, Sergei Surovikin, the withdrawal of the Russian military from Kherson. Following this, the Ukrainian Armed Forces said Thursday that over the past day they have regained control of twelve localities in the Kherson region.
