The president of the Peruvian Congress, José Williams Zapata, has accused this Wednesday that the country’s government is trying to shut down the Parliament after it proposed a project to reform the rule that regulates the question of confidence.

Specifically, the head of the Peruvian legislative chamber has described the decision of the Executive as «unacceptable», after the country’s Prime Minister, Anibal Torres, has proposed to repeal a measure that balances the powers of the State, as reported by RPP radio station.

«I believe, and I say it on behalf of the Board of Directors, that this is a provocation by the Executive, one more provocation that the Executive is making in the situation in which it finds itself: worried, desperate, resorting to situations like this, as well as that of the Organization of American States (OAS), where it discredits the State», Zapata pointed out.

«What I believe is that the Executive intends to confront the Congress of the Republic, and that the Executive intends to close the Congress of the Republic (…) To revise this law, which is constitutional, would rather break the balance of powers», he added.
