Brazil’s vice-president-elect, Geraldo Alckmin, announced Thursday the names of more than thirty people who will hold positions in the country’s transitional government, including former ministers Paulo Bernardo and Guido Mantega.
Alckmin, who is the transition coordinator, made the announcement of 36 new names from seven thematic areas at the Banco do Brasil Cultural Center, the complex that houses the transition office of President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
Bernardo — former Minister of Communications — will be part of the Communications group together with three other people. Meanwhile, Mantegas, former Minister of Finance, will be part of the group responsible for Planning, Budget and Management.
In the Human Rights work area, former Minister Maria do Rosário leads the group, which has six other members.
Former Minister of Racial Equality Nilma Lino Gomes will work on this issue together with six other members.
The Industry and Trade group has eight members, led by former Rio Grande do Sul Governor Germano Rigotto, and the Women’s group has six specialists.
The transition office is conducting a study on the situation of the country’s institutions in order to prepare for Lula’s first acts after his inauguration.
Just this week, Alckmin confirmed that Senator Simone Tebet will lead the social area. «Simone is one of the great leaders of our country. She will help us in a very important group. We have two great challenges, one economic and the other social,» which, according to Alckmin, are not two areas in dispute, but «complementary.»
