The President of Peru, Pedro Castillo, said Thursday that the population «has given a natural and genuine response» after the demonstrations held in the country in support of his government, welcoming the fact that citizens are wise.
During a meeting at the Government Palace with elected authorities of the Peruvian region of Pasco, the president stressed that citizens from different parts of the country have taken to the streets «without pressure», affirming that «the people are wise», as reported by Andina news agency.
«The people, who have demonstrated now all over the country, have come out to defend their own right, have come out to defend their vote, which was ignored many times and for a long time,» he said.
Castillo asserted that, in spite of «the demolition campaigns against the Government», the citizens know «who is telling the truth and who is lying», which is the reason for the mobilizations to have taken place.
«This people is an intelligent people, the people is wise because in spite of so many campaigns to demolish this Government, this people knows that there are those who tell the truth and those who lie to the people», he said.
Unions and organizations have come this Thursday to the demonstration called ‘The taking of Lima’ to show their rejection to the presidential vacancies promoted by the Parliament, presided by the right-wing José Williams Zapata, and to support the governability of the country, as reported by the radio station RPP.
The call has taken place in the midst of a controversy generated after the proposal of the Executive to propose the annulment of a law that limits the question of confidence of the Government.
This prerogative allows the Parliament to enforce the political responsibility of the Council of Ministers, or of individual ministers, which in recent months has led to the resignation of many government ministers.
