
South Korean authorities have raised the death toll in the tragedy that unfolded during the celebration of Halloween in the Itaewon neighborhood of Seoul to 157 after confirming the death of a soldier on Friday.
The soldier has been declared brain dead and has donated his organs, according to Yonhap news agency.
This brings to 131 the number of South Koreans who died as a result of the stampede that night and 26 foreigners who lost their lives, according to the Disaster Countermeasures and Security Headquarters.
So far, funeral rites have taken place for 130 of these locals, while 23 foreigners have been repatriated to their home countries.
According to the latest information, of the 192 people who were injured, eleven are still receiving hospital treatment.
