Colombian authorities have estimated that 205 people have died as a result of the heavy rains that have been falling throughout the country in recent days. In addition, half a hundred people are still missing and nearly half a million have been affected.

The National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD) has reported that the storm has affected all departments of the country. In total, 776 municipalities have been hit by heavy rains that have left more than 5,800 houses destroyed and nearly 700 infrastructures damaged.

In Bogota, its mayor, Claudia Lopez, has decreed a state of public calamity due to landslides and floods caused by the storm, which have left at least two dead in the capital.

In the last two years, the number of deaths caused by the winter has increased in Colombia. In 2020 there were 96 deaths and in 2021 the figure rose to 126, according to RCN radio station. In view of this situation, the government of President Gustavo Petro called an extraordinary meeting with his cabinet.
