The President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, began an international tour on Wednesday, during which he will visit Algeria, Turkey and China, as well as Russia, where he plans to meet with President Vladimir Putin.

According to Díaz-Canel’s Twitter profile, the trip is Cuba’s response to the «official invitations» extended by Algiers, Ankara, Beijing and Moscow, and will last eleven days, until Sunday, November 27.

«After two years under the impact of COVID-19, we are once again crossing the Atlantic for an intense tour, in which we will address essential issues for our country, fundamentally related to the electro-energy sector,» he said.

The main objective of the tour is to «strengthen the economic and political ties» that will allow the Government of the island to continue promoting its development. «In other words, to continue building the horizon of well-being that we deserve», said Díaz-Canel.

«The program designed responds to Cuba’s political and economic priorities, as well as to the efforts to alleviate the effects of a post-pandemic crisis that overwhelms the whole world, and in our case is aggravated by the effects of the U.S. blockade,» he reiterated.

The Cuban president is accompanied by Deputy Prime Ministers Ricardo Cabrisas and Alejandro Gil; Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez; his Foreign Trade counterpart, Rodrigo Malmierca; and those in charge of Energy and Health, Vicente de la O and José Ángel Portal, respectively.

«THERE IS A LOT TO TALK ABOUT».

For his part, the Kremlin spokesman, Dimitri Peskov, has confirmed the visit of the Cuban president, representative of a country that is «a very important partner» for Russia and with which «there is much to talk about».

Likewise, the Cuban Embassy in Moscow has advanced that President Díaz-Canel will participate next Tuesday in the inauguration of a monument to Cuban leader Fidel Castro, which will be erected in the square that bears his name, located in the capital’s Sokol district.
