The Moldovan government said Wednesday that the Russian gas still stored in Ukraine belongs to Chisinau and is part of its energy reserves, while stressing that the country will pay for the supply.

Moldova’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure, Andrei Spinu, said that «the volume of gas referred to by Gazprom that remains stored in Ukraine is part of Moldova’s savings and reserves in Ukraine».

«It is clear that this gas will be paid for,» Spinu has confirmed in a message transmitted via his Telegram account. He has also clarified that Moldova’s reserves have already reached 200 million cubic meters of gas.

On Tuesday, Gazprom said it would adequate storage of this gas in Ukraine with the intention to deliver it to Moldovan consumers, as stated in the contract signed with the Moldovagaz company. Russia has expressed concern over the 52.5 million cubic meters of gas that Ukraine has managed to accumulate.
